Meeting with Clive and Maria

Long chat with Clive and Maria really helped me feel motivated and inspired to progress my idea further.
Things brought up, discussed and pointed out:

What does 'Take Off Your Code mean to me?
A play on the phrase 'Take off your coat", the coat is superficial exterior.
Used as a coverup.
Maybe just to take it off and step away from it to gain clarity.

What it meant to Maria- Taking off your code (coat) meaning what lies beneath is the real person, the surface and glitch is only the online, false, self censored version of the self.

Clive
Reminded him of his mum saying "Take your coat off otherwise you won't feel the benefit"

Why did seeing a baby scan online annoy me?
People sharing such private moments, now to the public. What if something happens during the pregnancy and now the entirety of their social media network have seen this unborn child. It also means thats the first 'photo' of that future person and their life will be documented online from before even day one! So next the birth, the feeding, the

What do I want to say/question?
-Too much information out there?
-Implications of this
-False identity, image and character?

Need to refine and research what I want to focus on.
Keeping to the 24 Lies Per Second ethos, theme of the glitch and the relationship between humans and digital.

Clive said the mock up logo reminded him of Milton Glaser.

Don't need to pinpoint the output just yet.

New new

-Bold 'Take Off Your Code'

Take off your code is inspired by
Really like the revealing nature and the colours bright and bold against the person.

Possibly will be videos of people rubbing green paint on themselves which I'll green screen in glitch graphics.

data research

http://thecreatorsproject.vice.com/en_uk/blog/heres-what-classic-paintings-look-like-as-data

THIS ^ would've been perfect to see for my previous project. I just have a weird fascination for life things visualised as data, real things becoming numbers, becoming code, meaning nothing until read and interpreted by a computer.

Fascinated by this post, firstly I want a glitch jacket and pillow! But it strangely interest me seeing real life objects effected by something that wouldn't have effected them before.

Nick Gentry has produced some really interesting portraits created through film negatives and floppy discs, I don't know what his reason for them are but to me they become a history of the person.

The above painting as a digital file is almost the opposite to this analogue representation.

First thoughts

Just quickly did this to visualise my title concept. >

'Don't forget your code' will be my starting point for this project.

What triggered this was as I was trying to think how I would progress from the last project (purge) I was trawling through blogs and websites on data visualisation and glitch art (research will be in another post) I went back to Facebook as one of many frequent moments of procrastination and out of habit to see if anything interesting has happened, because you never know, it might! So anyway, the first thing I saw was a baby scan. A BABY SCAN!

Firstly it's fascinating because what is an ultrasound? visualising your baby through what looks like data 'sound or other vibrations having an ultrasonic frequency, particularly as used in medical imaging.' so it's a visual representation of your child, ok... but why are people now sharing these on Facebook to hundreds of acquaintances and possibly even strangers. The first image that future person has is now accessible by all. So from someone sharing that photo, I've just seen an unborn child of a person i've never met and likely to never meet, Weird huh?

So the working title 'Don't Forget Your Code' is referring to how the majority of our lives are now online, interactions are predominately more digital and our experience as human and machine are changing. The line between the two becoming blurred and are we prepared for this? Are we aware of what the consequences will be? And are we teaching people how to be safe, freedom, surveillance, etc etc... don't want to rant.

The parody of the sentence 'don't forget your coat' (like mums would shout on a chilly morning), it's almost a warning to be aware, and to draw attention to how common it is now to share every detail without hesitation.

Right now I don't know where this is going, but I know it angers, intrigues and fascinates me so hopefully that's a good enough starting point.
